Urgent Task on Orø Ferry
Back in August, challenges arose with one of the two propeller systems on board the Orø Ferry. This required the ferry to make a trip to Assens Shipyard and undergo emergency docking to resolve the issue.
Our service technicians, Johs Schmidt and Daniel Einarsson, arrived at Assens Shipyard with the necessary spare parts to address the task.
“They quickly identified that a fishing net had become entangled in the propeller, causing the leakage in the propeller’s seal. This resulted in seawater seeping in and mixing with the ferry’s gear oil. It was a critical situation that could have led to a complete breakdown of the ferry,” explains Tom Nymand Kristensen, COO at West-Marine.
At Assens Shipyard, our two service technicians disassembled the gear and thoroughly cleaned and lubricated all parts. All bearings, seals, and O-rings were replaced, including the seal itself.
After a well-executed job and a successful sea trial, the ferry was released from the dock and returned to its regular ferry route between Orø and Holbæk.
