In the autumn of 2021, West-Marine A\/S participated in the overhaul of the four thrusters on the vessel Wind Osprey, which comes from the Danish offshore wind company Cadeler<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The locals in Esbjerg got a glimpse of the case when the large jack-up vessel Wind Osprey docked at the harbour. When the ship rose from the surface of the sea and suddenly stood on its six legs. The ship could be spotted several kilometers away. Now the work could begin.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In collaboration with Semco Maritime A\/S<\/a> and Brunvoll A\/S<\/a>, West-Marine started the overhaul of the four huge thrusters on the Wind Osprey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It is a huge honor to be allowed to be responsible for this overhaul on the Wind Osprey in close collaboration with Semco and Brunvoll. Our technicians have worked with and developed their knowledge of thrusters for many years. The expertise they have acquired is now really coming into play,\u201d said a proud director of West-Marine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Initially, the two retractable azimuth thrusters had to be removed from the Wind Osprey and carefully transported into the workshop. It was a bit of a test of manhood, as each thruster weighs in the region of 16 tons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Great task, great satisfaction<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

But the many tons did not shake our CTO that the first thruster landed in the workshop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We have just received the first of two Brunvoll retractable azimuth thrusters of the type AR-100 with a propeller diameter of 2700 mm into the workshop. There are several things we must have done. Among other things, we must have changed the packing box and O-rings in the propellers. We must have changed the liner on the shaft itself and other demanding measures”, said Alex Fjord Christensen, when the first thruster had rolled into the workshop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Subsequently, the two bowthrusters entered the workshop, each weighing around 10 tonnes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With great success, West-Marine’s technicians overhauled the four thrusters and put them back on the Wind Osprey. Now it can sail out again and help the shipping company Cadeler install offshore wind turbines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We have proven that our technicians are capable of carrying out such a prestigious task, and even though it has been a big task, we will soon be ready to do it all again on the next ship,” explains a satisfied Carsten Larsen, which at the same time teases a little that a similar ship could soon come past Esbjerg Harbour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
